Tequila + Savage Scorpions = A Deliciously Savage Match!

We've got another annual "holiday" coming up that is the perfect celebration to add a few Savage Scorpions to - National Tequila Day on July 24! While often enjoyed as a great scorpion shot, tequila is the main ingredient in quite a few popular cocktails as well. Here are a few we highly suggest giving a try.

Margaritas
Most likely the first drink to come to mind when someone mentions tequila is a cold, refreshing, margarita. These come in just about every flavor, color, and size imaginable. Our unique cocktail garnish looks great served on all of them!

A classic lime margarita is made of tequila, an orange liqueur (like triple sec,) and lime juice served either frozen or over ice in a glass with a salted rim. The addition of agave syrup can be made if you need a bit of sweetness added and some people choose to substitute sweet & sour mix in place of the fresh lime juice. Those ingredients will get you started, but with an internet search or suggestions from your favorite bartender, you will be able to discover lots of wonderful margarita recipes to try out.

Paloma
Our next tequila-based cocktail is most commonly prepared by mixing tequila with a grapefruit-flavored soda over ice. Fresca, Squirt, and Jarrito's are popular brands that should be easy to find. Some people like to salt the rim of the glass for additional flavor and a squeeze of lime also gives it a nice taste.

If you don't want to use the grapefruit soda, a variation on the recipe replaces that with fresh white or red grapefruit juice, club soda, and a squeeze of lime. Agave syrup or some type of sweetener can also be added if needed.

Tequila Sunrise
This beautiful cocktail makes our unique drink ingredient look like it's enjoying a colorful sunrise when you drop it into the glass! You could set up even more of a tropical scene by perching your scorpion on an orange slice garnishing the glass next to a drink umbrella!

A Tequila Sunrise has a simple recipe, but it takes a bit of skill to make it look just right. Start with a glass of ice, then add a shot of tequila and some orange juice. Lastly, add grenadine down the inside of the glass so that it sinks to the bottom, and then do not stir it up. The gorgeous sunrise effect of the red of the grenadine merging up into the orange of the juice is how this cocktail got it's name.

Shots
Last, but certainly not least, tequila is a classic, go-to choice for shots. The most difficult decision you will have to make is what type of tequila you will choose. Blanco (or silver) is a popular choice but a nice Reposado or Anejo is tasty too. A while back we dedicated an entire blog All About Tequila that may help you make a decision. (Don't worry, Savage Scorpions love all tequilas equally!)

If you're looking for something new, ask your local bartender to mix up their favorite tequila recipe for you. If they don't already have our gourmet drink ingredient to add to that cocktail or shot, be sure to tell them they can easily order Savage Scorpions online before your next visit! Them, that time around your night out will be truly "savage!"
