Refreshing Drink Ideas to Beat the Hottest "Dog Days of Summer"
You may have noticed by the increase in heat when you step outdoors that we are in the midst of the "Dog Days of Summer." This year the hottest and most humid portion of the season falls between July 22 and August 22. That means there are still quite a few hot days ahead of us, so today Savage Scorpions has a few cool and refreshing drink ideas to help you beat that heat.
Pineapple & Jalapeno Infused Vodka Cocktail
from PhysicalKitchness.com
With the cool freshness of pineapple, the slight heat of a jalapeno, and that special vodka kick, this summertime cocktail is both flavorful and refreshing. Simply by soaking some diced jalapenos in vodka overnight gives the liquor a lovely spice. The best way to add some extra "savage" spiciness to this drink is to add our gourmet drink ingredient to the glass too!
As the website states, "Soooo simple, no junky ingredients, just an easy cocktail your entire summer crowd will love." We're sold!

Mason Jar Watermelon Frosé
from CountryLiving.com
Here's another refreshingly fruity cocktail with simple ingredients and simple instructions. (Nobody wants to put too much effort into anything on a hot summer day!) Best of all, you get a frozen drink without having to use a blender!
Rosé wine, watermelon juice, a mason jar, and a freezer are all you need. Well, that plus some mint for garnish and a Savage Scorpion to perch atop the mound of frozen yumminess, of course!

Blueberry Margarita
from Chowhound.com
Summertime and margaritas are a match made in heaven. (Although we must admit, we believe margaritas pair perfectly with every season!) This recipe brings in more of the fruity summer flavors we love, this time with blueberries. Tequila fans need to try this one out for a great way to cool off on a hot summer day.
Be sure to toss in a few frozen blueberries to help keep the drink cold while you sip. Then you have a sweet treat at the bottom of the glass to go along with the Savage Scorpion you popped in there.

Classic Mai Tai
from Delish.com
This is a classic beach-sipping cocktail that has many, many different variations depending on which bartender mixes it up for you. Traditionally, they all have both dark and white rums, orgeat syrup (for which you can substitute almond extract), lime juice, and most also add orange juice and grenadine.
In this recipe, they've got all that plus a few additional easy to find ingredients that add some incredible flavors plus they also add a touch of heat with a chili powder rimmed glass. It's definitely a version worth giving a try. (FYI, our creative drink garnish loves every Mai Tai recipe it's been added to!)

Sunset Punch
from FoodAndWine.com
For the final recipe today, we've got a punch you can mix up ahead of time to serve at a party. Usually, many punches include rum as the main ingredient but this time around we've got a punch recipe for the bourbon lovers out there.
The addition of ginger beer plus citrus makes this a wonderful drink to sip on as the summer sun goes down. Whether you float a few Savage Scorpions in the punch bowl atop the lemon slices or have a bowl of them sitting next to the punch bowl for only the most savage to enjoy is up to you.
